Dr Tiryaki attended the Bratislava Legal Forum 2023

Dr Tiryaki attended the Bratislava Legal Forum 2023 organized by the Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Law in cooperation with the faculty’s Alumni Club. The forum took place on 11 and 12 September 2023 on the Faculty’s premises. Dr Tiryaki presented her paper “Guaranteeing right to asylum in de facto states: case study Cyprus”, which is due to be published in the conference proceedings.

Dr Tiryaki participated in the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women

Dr. Tiryaki participated in the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9 to 20 March 2015. The main focus of the session was on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, including current challenges that affect its implementation and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women.

On 23.3.2015, Dr Tiryaki participated in a discussion organised by the Brookings Institute. The discussion was built on an ongoing dialogue between the Israeli think tank Mitvim, and the Turkish Global Political Trends Center, sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, as well as ongoing work by Brookings experts.

Inaugural Suna Roundtable Discussion – The Middle East on Rise: Turkey and the EU

On October 25, 2012, Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki
participated in the Inaugural Suna Roundtable Discussion
entitled “The Middle East on Rise: Turkey and the EU” in Bratislava,
organized by GPoT Center in collaboration with the Faculty of Social and
Economic
Sciences (FSES) of Comenius University in Slovakia. This was the first
one in a series of roundtable discussions that will
be held annually in Bratislava to commemorate H.E. Suna Çokgür Ilıcak,
who passed away while serving as the Ambassador of the Republic of
Turkey to Slovak Republic in 2006.

Dr. Tiryaki discussed Turkey’s role in the Middle East and EU-Turkey
relations with the representatives of diplomatic corps based in
Bratislava, academics, experts and students who attended the event, and
participated in a ceremony during which a birch tree in the memory of
H.E. Suna Çokgür Ilıcak was jointly planted in the garden of FSES.

Dr. Tiryaki moderated the Public Forum Closing Remarks by H.E. Mr. Zahir Tanin Head of Delegation Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, which took place in May 2010.

Dr. Tiryaki spoke at the conference “Towards Trust Building: Reconciliation through a Common Purpose in Cyprus” , which was part of a research project under the special action “Reconciliation, Confidence Building Measures and Support to Civil Society” in Cyprus. The project took place from December 2009 to December 2010.
