From Aspiration to Reality: Nuclear Disarmament After the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review

GPoT Center’s Deputy Director Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki participated in a one-day conference, organized by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and Fundación Alternatives, in Madrid on November 30th, 2012.

The conference was entitled “Challenges for the European Union in a Changing World” aimed at analyzing the role of Europe in the current global context facing the European economic crisis and the rise of new states and non-state actors in the global arena. It addressed questions such as the ways in which Europe can deal with these changes, the perception of the EU by external actors, and what kind of global governance that should be promoted.

Dr. Tiryaki participated as a speaker in the first conference session entitled “Power Shifts: the EU in a Multipolar World”. Other speakers at the event included Josep Borrell, former Minister and former President of the European Parliament (keynote speech); Íñigo Méndez De Vigo y Montojo, Secretary of State for European Affairs of Spain; Members of Parliament of Spain; and representatives from the international think-tank community.
